(Denver, CO)

Happy October!!!!! Fall is here. A little bit, it’s still very warm but definitely cooling down in the mornings and evenings. My dad was here this weekend and we had a great time eating (duh), at the zoo (i am now officially a denver zoo member lol, it’s actually such a great space and so close to me and i will be going frequently), and at the farmers market.

The vibe:

Zoo, sushi, and swan boats.

Doing:

I fell off my horse this weekend. Being able to ride was one of the main reasons I moved out here and it’s been something I look forward to every weekend. Teddy was giving me a hard time the whole lesson and when we were trotting through the barrels he bucked me off. I fell HARD, got the wind knocked out of me and couldn’t move my neck for a couple days (I’m all better now don’t worry). Honestly, it was scary. I didn’t want to get back on but I did and I am proud of me :) It's that famous saying, got to get back in the saddle.

Wearing:

Nothing hits like a perfect pair of jeans. When you get something at the thrift you never know how it’s going to fit until you get home. I seriously lucked out, the brand is Baby Phat (soo y2k) and they fit me like a glove. I love the bootcut and all the pockets (i just wish the hardware was silver instead but still, seriously such a lucky find).

Watching:

I watched the Blue Zone on netflix. A blue zone is a concentration of people who have lived to be over 100. Dan Buettner interviews all these people to try to figure out what about their lifestyle allows them to live that long. Food, diet, and exercise are obviously a huge part of it but he also talks about other factors like community, purpose, etc. Super interesting. I’ve always believed in leading a slow life and I'm trying to get closer to it.

Eating:

Top restaurant roundup so far. If you know me, you know going out to dinner is basically my passion in life. I was worried leaving NYC and coming here but there is a very up and coming restaurant scene.

Safta: This is some of the best hummus I’ve ever had in my life. Denver just got their first michelin stars a couple weeks ago and Safta was on their distinction list. Adorable little spot, great service, and incredible pita bread.

One Fold: Cute little breakfast spot near my house with an incredible chile relleno.

Uchi: I went to Uchi for the first time last year in Austin and it is a solid sushi spot. They have really interesting sashimis, some of them were a little too smoked for me but overall 10/10 for fresh fish in Denver.

Chez Maggy: OMG. so good. We went for brunch but I will definitely be going back for dinner. Chilaquiles and french toast were actually to die for.

Himchuli: Found this cute little spot in Highlands with my dad this weekend. Nepalese/ Indian food with the sweetest owners.

Hey Kiddo: My friend works here so we stopped by one night for dinner. It’s a trendy little spot with 3 different spaces including a rooftop. IMO, they really overdid it with the fish flakes on everything but the potato pavé is actually incredible.

Reading:

I have not been good about reading recently. I really go through phases, I think I’ve just been so busy and tired by the time I get in bed I just doom-scroll on tiktok. I’ve been trying to take a 30 min break in the middle of the day to sit outside and read and when I actually get to it, it’s so nice.

Listening:

Gastropod. I LOVE this podcast. I think I discovered it last spring and it’s so interesting. “Food with a side of science and history.” There’s 2 hosts and they basically pick a topic for the week (ramen, sourdough, champagne, pineapples, etc.) and then they travel around and investigate. I’ve learned so many fun little food facts and stories. They’ll go to farms, breweries, research centers. Definitely recommend.

Happy spooky season yay <3 see you next week
